02/12/2017 So good, we went back

There were many practical reasons why we chose to stay at Layalina, mainly because we were driving and they have a private car park, yet the location is still on the edge of the medina making all the main sites walkable. The hosts were wonderful and we were treated with a tagine and mint tea on arrival which was the best welcome gift after our long journey. We loved our room and our huge breakfast on the terrace. Couldn’t recommend them more.

02/07/2017 Beautiful Riad in an excellent location!

We so enjoyed this jewel of a hotel. Close walking distance to the hustle and bustle but far enough away for it to be peaceful. Sa’id and Jafar looked after us extremely well serving up a free breakfast fit for kings. The Wifi is super fast, nice hot showers and beautiful decor throughout!

01/24/2017 Excellent location if driving. And excellent food!

This was a great riad with private parking close to the gate of the medina. It is very close to one of the access points to get on top of the old medina walls. The small window out of the shower looks out over the medina walls. The souk is 2 minutes away from the front door by walking. We had the superior double room with king bed and it was a large room. The mattress was pretty stiff like I like it and the frame of the bed is built into the floor so it doesn’t squeak at all. Several of the employees speak at least a little english.

Breakfast was good and the mandarins here were the best mandarins we had in all of Morocco. The Tajine dinner is enormous and tasty…two people can’t finish it, try as we might. We also did the cooking tour and class where you go to the souk to see and sample the ingrediants being bought and learn to make Tajine later. The hotel guide was great and also helped us find our way to a little art gallery to find a painting. The class was informative (and we learned we’ll never take the time to cook Tajine at home) but the cook doesn’t speak English. We lucked out though that the manager’s wife (who is American) was able to come by and translate for us.

You will need to have euros or Dirham for the room, tours, and cooking class. Email the riad after you book and they will send you good detailed instructions for how to find them. We stayed right before Christmas 2016.

01/20/2017 Wonderful stay

My husband and I had a fantastic stay in this gorgeous Riad. Jaffa our host was very helpful during our stay, showing us areas to visit in Fes and recommending restaurants to try. The staff were warm, generous and made our visit to fez very memorable. The Riad is beautiful decorated and has a wonderful terrace where you can see right over Fes. The Riad is in an excellent location and was easy to find our way in and out of the medina as it is just off the main road of the medina. If I return to fez I will definitely be back!

01/09/2017 Nice a greatly located

Fantastically located 1 minutes from the souk, the main door entrance, 20
Minutes walk from the royal palace.

This has been the best Riad visited during the trip, in terms of elegance, detail attention, lookalike. And also the most expensive one, of course.

Rooms were a little bit cold, wifi was working with hick-up.

The managers were nice, although maybe because Fes is a much bigger city, less talkative and maybe they were only trying to be discrete.

Welcome food and breakfast were really nice and well presented.

01/08/2017 Great Stay!

Beautiful riad, wonderful staff. Could not have had a more pleasant stay. We loved the courtyard, the room, and the incredibly personable, kind, and helpful staff. Will stay here again next time we’re in Fes!

01/08/2017 Simply fabulous!

We were absolutely blown away by the service and beauty of this place! We booked the junior suite, and it was perfect – gorgeous decor, lots of room, and a little loft with two extra single beds. The detail and craftsmanship of the place is astounding, from the stunning courtyard all the way down to the doorknobs and locks. The roof terrace was a wonderful place to read and enjoy the sunset, and to hear the prayer calls across the city.

I cannot say enough about the wonderful service. Jaffa and the staff really pull out all the stops when it comes to making guests feel welcome and comfortable. We were welcomed with a delicious hot meal, and the breakfast every morning was plentiful and delicious.

We could not have imagined a better place to stay while visiting Fes. I cannot recommend Riad Layalina highly enough!

12/23/2016 Beautiful riad!

Lovingly restored riad! The architectural details are amazing – a feast for the eyes. If you are driving, this is the best place to stay; there is a private parking area and you are literally at the doorsteps of the souq. No lugging your bags up the steep and narrow alleyways in the medina. The breakfast was fantastic, a huge scrumptious spread that was way more than what we could finish. The owner Jerome was very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended, you won’t regret it.

12/20/2016 Fantastic Riad; excellent value and service

Not enough can be said about how wonderful the staff were at Riad Layalina and how lovely the setting is. The riad is very well located in a quiet part of the medina but near all the action. It was winter during our visit but the inviting swimming pool in the main courtyard must be heaven in the summer months, and our room was very lovely (even though it was rather cold until the heat kicked in). The bathroom was really nice with a spacious shower, and views from the roof were great. We also had dinner at the riad which was equally delicious as breakfast: a mezze spread with aubergine, olives, and salad, and then tagine followed by a fruit spread. Definitely recommend having your dinners at the riad!

The staff though is what made it a truly excellent experience, Jaffa in particular. Upon our arrival at the riad at 10am (not official check-in time) a full breakfast was waiting for us: fresh orange juice, omelette, bread/butter/jam, coffee, and typical cakes. Jaffa and his colleagues not only helped us figure out which bus to take to Chefchaouen and which train to Marrakech, but they physically WENT to the stations to buy the tickets for us! This saved us a bunch of time since the stations are located in the new city, and it allowed us to begin exploring the medina. After we checked out of the riad to go on our 1-night stay in Chefchaouen they also let us store our larger bags there for us to collect 2 days later.
