12/10/2014 Warm, inviting staff and great location make this place a fantastic getaway

My friend and I stayed at Riad Layalina in Fez recently and found it to be a charming place to stay with great service, a super helpful staff, and an outstanding location next to the old medina.

We arrived in Fes after a five hour ride from Erfoud, having completed a three day tour through the desert. Our trip had been a bit rougher than expected since the ride had brought us through sun, rain, and snow, and we’d not had a hot shower in two days. So imagine our surprise when we arrived at Riad Layalina to a hot meal and piping hot showers.

Now caveat – this place is not easy to find. The google map directions are correct – the location on Google is the building, but you need to keep going along the road to where you see the parking lot on your left and a small path on your right. Walk up that path to the first road you find, and turn right. Go to the end of that street and at the end (the first corner you come to), on the right side, is the Layalina. You basically need to do a big loop to find the main door.

When we came in, they settled us in a comfortable room with two beds, a private bathroom, and a space heater – all vital things considering where we had been. The dinner, a light chicken tagine with bread, tea and dessert, was such a nice treat. They took care to make sure our trip was comfortable and provided us with breakfast and then a bottle of water for the road. It was a bit chilly but the extra blankets and space heater kept us warm – and the hot water comes out really fast! 🙂

And lastly, when we told them we needed to leave a bit earlier than expected, they gave us some breakfast items the previous night so we would have them. How thoughtful!

I would highly recommend them in future!

11/28/2014 Ask and you will be accommodated from pickup from the train station late at night to last minute extra nights stay

Outstanding place. Thanks to you all for making my stay with you a pleasure. Helpfulness was your middle name. Ask and you will be accommodated. Great location. Awesome breakfast. Friendly atmosphere.

11/20/2014 Really lovely

Riad, beautiful with very friendly staff and beautifully appointed rooms. There were sweets and mint tea when I arrived. It’s a little difficult to find but it’s well worth it. The best Riad I stayed in while I was in Morocco.

11/05/2014 Friendly and welcoming Riad

We have stayed in this Riad for 2 nights in October 2014. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was on the ground floor leading directly on the the court yard were breakfast was served. We loved the calm and relaxed atmosphere. The breakfast was good and generous. The location was very convenient. Our taxi could dropped us of directly outside the Riad and a short walk took us to the incredible Medina. Good value for money.

10/09/2014 Such a beautiful Riad!

Exactly the same as the photos. We only had a short stay but the housekeeper was helpful and prepared mint tea and sweets even though we came in late, and then a big breakfast in the morning by the pool. He also arranged a taxi transfer to the airport and let us use the computer to print something. Would definitely recommend this Riad.

09/26/2014 Beautiful and Welcoming

I stayed at Riad Layalina in July. From the second we arrived, we were treated like royalty. The riad itself absolutely stunning, with a beautiful courtyard and detailed tile work. From the rooftop terrace, you can see the medina and the surrounding area. The rooms are clean and the beds were comfortable. Plus, the rooms are air-conditioned which was a welcome fact in the sweltering heat. Upon arrival we were served mint tea, bottled water, and delicious tagine for a late lunch. The breakfast the following morning was delicious as well. They got us an excellent guide to take us through the medina. We had to check out of our room a few hours before we were set to leave, and they even offered us another room to shower in before we left. I cannot say enough about how kind and generous everyone was here.

09/25/2014 Charming Riad

After a long journey and a short walk down a narrow alley, we came to our Riad Layalina. Leaving the alley behind we entered into this very charming hotel. The host offered us mint tea, cookies, and bottled water. It was like an oasis!

The hotel is small and charming, and filled with numerous details, such as the intricate carvings on the walls and ceilings, the Persian carpets on the floor, the Moroccan lamps, the windows with shutters on the inside that reveal stained glassed windows that can also open to let in fresh air. It was very enchanting.

For breakfast we were served fried eggs, some type of Moroccan bread with honey, figs, mint tea, and other items that escape me.

Radwan and the other members of the staff worked very hard to make our stay enjoyable.

The hotel was a very short walk to the Medina.

This riad is absolutely stunning! A beautiful courtyard, very well maintained, and nice and cool in the heat everywhere inside. Very traditional look with the mosaic tiles and painted glass windows, furniture and even the bathroom made me feel like being in a hammam. Even the small pool inside is made in a way that it blends in perfectly. It is just at the corner of the medina, a few minutes walk away from the hustle and bustle but it is quiet. It has a gated car park which was handy for us. We only had breakfast there but it was plentiful and delicious. And it has a roof terrace with a great view! We stayed 2 nights and it was a pleasure to get back to the riad every evening. Highly recommended!

08/11/2014 A wonderful REAL Riad in Fez Medina

This is a great place to stay for a real Riad experience – this is a guniune old Riad, very well preserved, just on the edge of Fes Medina, with a car park and easy access from the main road. The architecture and quality of the decorations in this old riad is fantastic, and it is good value for money. The rooms are small, because they are the original Riad rooms, but very cosy.

However, you will spend little time in the room, as this riad has a magnificent coutyard, shady and cool, with a small poll you can dip in (too small for a real swim). There is also a really good, large roof top terrace, which always has some shade. The food here is good (if expensive compared to the medina), and you get a free tomato and egg tagine and mint tea on arrival.

It is well positioned for expeloring the medina, close to the main entrance at the blue gate where there are more tourist-friendly restaurants, but also for exploring deeper into the medina, my favourite place in Morocco. It is about a 20 minute walk through the lanes to the central madrassa and the dyeing pits, a must see in Fez.

07/15/2014 Charming and beautifully moroccan

This Riad was easily as charming and beautifully decorated as many of the madrassas or mosques in Fes. On a hot afternoon we were blissfully happy to spend time by the pool gazing up at the surrounding building and drinking moroccan tea prepared by the helpful staff. They were kind enough to meet us on arrival with tea, sweets and traditional lunch and from then on nothing was too much trouble.

The mattresses were a little hard for our liking but rooms were otherwise very well done.

Location is very convenient for exploring the old city and markets.
